NYC Mesh is a commun I just send that you get your hug.ity Network! This means that people who choose to participate are not merely users, but active members of a group seeking to connect and help as many people as possible get access to reliable internet. By being part of a mesh Network, you are helping serve your neighbors and strengthening the entire mesh network.
Most Mesh members donate $20 or $30 dollars per month to help us maintain and grow the network. You can choose your monthly donation here. If you want to update your credit card or have any questions about donating- click here.
We have regular in-person meetups on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Sign up for these on Meetup. These are getting more popular. We also usually livestream the meetups so you can watch from anywhere. Here are some of the recent presentations-
State of the Mesh, Recent Expansion and Org Ideas, Supernode 1, Building a Commons, New Software Tools.NYC Mesh is volunteer-run and relies on donated time. In the past month, volunteers brought Community Wifi to the Bushwick City Farm, which provides resources to a neighboring emergency shelter currently housing 500 asylum seekers. If you have any interest in volunteering, please come to our monthly, in-person meetups or join the slack to learn more about what is currently going on. We welcome volunteers of all skill sets!

Here is more information about Althea’s use of blockchain technology on the routers, to create an automated, flexible payment system for members of the network. Each member owns a part of the infrastructure when they purchase their router. They buy bandwidth from upstream and sell it to other members downstream from them.
