Which ISPs are eligible to utilize Affordable Connectivity Program funds?
ACP will provide a household with $30 per month to pay to their provider for connectivity to the Internet, providing that the household income is low enough to qualify. In addition, the ISP must have been approved by the government to be able to receive ACP funds. Most of the articles documenting ACP issues, place the problem with building awareness among disadvantaged populations. However, it has been observed that ISPs also present systemic problems. For example the chatbot of the ISP keeps telling you how to apply for ACP after you have input your verified approval along with the ID given to you by the federal government.
Should ACP be financing the expansion of incumbent ISP’s who created the digital divide, or helping community owned Internet networks with financing?
This article is just one example of how ACP funds can be utilized to help finance a network. Teenagers are likely to be a useful intermediary to reach families that can apply for ACP funds. In addition, community networks that employ Althea technology and Hawk networks can benefit.
