Could we train high school students to become digital navigators?
We will describe below current efforts using programs like the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) to get more people connected. Unfortunately, we have discovered that in addition to building awareness and knowledge within the population that may be eligible to receive these benefits, there are also systemic roadblocks that exist within ISPs. For example, after an individual has been approved by the government to be eligible for ACP, the Comcast Chatbot keeps telling you how to apply for ACP when you are repeatedly indicating that you have been approved and have an ID. WiFiSherpa is working on addressing issues like this, in addition to utilizing the excellent work that has been accomplished by organizations, such as the
Benton Institute for Broadband and Society.
